I Have a Fear of Public Writing

This is the fourth "first line" I've written thus far.  I've got a "Fear of Public Writing."  I tapped on it for about 40 seconds, and here I am, in the beginning.  Very Exciting!  I'm actually enjoying this.  There are a lot of people out there that acknowledge their Fear of Public Speaking, but how many are aware of their "Fear of Public Writing."  Did I just coin that term?  I had better Google it.  YES!  Even more exciting, I'm breaking new ground here.

What is the "Fear of Public Writing" and do you have this issue, too?  Do you hesitate to write emails, letters, responses online or even to a friend for fear of the dreaded written word, that can never be taken back, nor erased, out there speaking for you, for eternity, in "black and white."  Yeah, me too.  Yet, here I am, doing just that, and having fun, believe it or not.

How am I able to do this?  Face my fears so daringly?  The answer is quite simple, incredibly revolutionary, and I can't wait to share this fabulous secret with you!   EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques)...Why don't more people know about this?  (A topic for another day I'm sure).  EFT is a tool that we can use to give us relief from the most mundane (fear of writing a blog) to the most extreme (chronic debilitating back pain), and tons of stuff in between.  Most basically it is a combination of acu-pressure and psychology, an energy healing, and consists of tapping on energy meridian points on your body while speaking certain phrases that help you to heal yourself.  It is wonderfully effective.

Are you interested?  I hope so...we've all got "stuff" to work on, myself included, and now we have an effective tool to use to help us handle it.  My writing this blog is a case in point.  Interestingly, if you've got a "Fear of Public Writing" as well, you may not be inclined to comment here, unless you've already learned about the fabulous world of EFT and are using it too.  For more information, check out

Wow, I too have a fear of writing. I've searched all over the internet for info. I found out some people have a problem called Hypergraphia, which is an overwhelming urge to write. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypergraphia
Seems like there should be a corresponding word called HypOgraphia, (or permanent writer's block) but as far as I can tell, there isn't. I did read somewhere that fear of writing and fear of telephones are types of social phobia. This is encouraging, because I know there are treatments for social phobia. But if I call it graphophobia, how can I get help for a disorder nobody has ever heard of?

I have recently come to the conclusion, that I am not so much afraid of writing, as afraid once I start, I won't be able to stop. Everything I write takes 3 to 4 times as much time as I think it should, and ends up longer than I intended.

Hi Kathy. Interested to read your reply to Erin. I think the computer helps, because you can type away and just delete anything if you don't want it on reflection, but if you can type fast (and if you can't, LEARN!) you can get your thoughts down quite quickly and then go back and sort them out after. But please, please, please go to Erin's webpage (or mine) and read about EFT Tapping for this or any other problem. It's not perfect but it's very close to perfect, and it should set you free. Truly. Try it!
